This is about living in subdivisions on pocket-size shut lots where you neighbors can intrude on you and tin brand things unsightly. The neighbors are losing market value because many folks will not buy next to this guy and some will not buy in the neighborhood he is in. He is literally costing his neighbors money and there is nothing they can do about information technology.

And there's nothing they should be able to do about information technology. It'due south his property he tin exercise with it what he wants. It is not his duty to make his neighbors money.

Unless he is physically disrupting the lives of his neighbors they should heed at that place own business organisation.

The death from a thousand cuts from overzealous little Napoleons is frequently worse than the rando situations like this.

I can rattle off a half dozen petty complaints confronting the HOAs but from my AO.

A preview includes:
"You didnt ask to put a raised bed between your sidewalk and house. Rip information technology out, submit professional elevations and nosotros volition consider your request." (She told them to pound sand considering its simply 2 landscape timbers tall and a trunkload of soil. they relented after a scolding)
"you didnt paint that new mailbox post using Sherwin Williams #2345 biscuit" (homeowner used the equivalent colour from his neighbor accounting for fade to make it friction match perfectly)
"yous didnt purchase the replacement mailbox and have information technology replaced by our vendor. Rip information technology out and contact Bob at..." (it was the exact aforementioned post style and box type/size. "Bob" is the friends with the board and they knew he didnt do the job )

All of these included threats of fines if not washed.

I somehow doubt that you would be then charitable if your real estate agent told you your house volition sell for $30,000 less because you neighbor likes pink…

It takes gumption to control the little tyrants, if they become command, and they usually get command when good folks get lazy and don't desire to become involved leaving a vacuum for them to fill.

Guess they should accept moved while he was painting. Their loss is on them not him. His belongings value manifestly doesn't phase his choices.

And my neighborhood has two halves. The old department (mine) without a HOA and the new with. The worst I have to deal with is unmowed lawns and people parking in the street. I'll gladly take that over the fiddling issues the other half of the hood complains nearly.

I would non alive in a neighborhood of small lots that did not have an HOA to finish this kind of thing. Since he bought in a neighborhood without an HOA it is completely his correct to do and then.

Me, I like an HOA, which actually is a contract among the owners equally to how they will live. Ane of those typical understanding points is there will be no pink houses.

So you want to blame "good folks" instead of the tyrant's or the HOA that gave them the power to exist a tyrant?

Sounds well-nigh right for the mod times.

I will not live in an hoa and I am looking for a way to be fifty-fifty less close to other morons. I'd like my nearest neighbor to exist at to the lowest degree a mile away.

When the HOA says you can't fly the flag in your k, just at that place are no bylaws about painting your home.

Sounds about right for the modern times.

Yes, if you bring together an HOA you lot should exist prepared to participate and not be a freeloader. No one made anyone join the HOA. If i wants the protection of an HOA, 1 must be willing to work for it. If one does not want an HOA they should not buy into one.

It is good many of yous know you lot do non want an HOA, but it is unlikely you lot volition ever get a newer house unless you build 1 out in the country, which is super expensive present…
